Mary McCarthy lived west of the town of Ballyvaughan close to Gleninagh Quay. Standing on the hillside above the quay, looking north and east, you would see something like this.
At the end of the first chapter of Shapechanger’s Birth Mary bathes in a small stream, somewhat like this one.
